A residence permit is what converts a visit into a life. It gives you a legal address, access to services, and the standing to work or run a business.

The permit types

Armenia issues residence permits in several forms, differing mainly in duration and in what you must show to qualify. Shorter permits are typically renewable and are the usual starting point. Longer and permanent statuses generally become available after a period of lawful residence, and special provisions exist for people of Armenian origin.

Which one you should apply for depends less on preference than on the grounds you can actually document.

Common grounds

  • Employment. A job with an Armenian employer, supported by a contract.
  • Business. Ownership or directorship of a registered Armenian company, or registration as an individual entrepreneur.
  • Family. A spouse, parent, or child who is a citizen or resident.
  • Origin. Armenian ancestry, evidenced through documents.
  • Study. Enrolment at a recognised institution.

What the process looks like

  1. Confirm which ground you qualify under, and gather the evidence for it.
  2. Translate and legalise foreign documents.
  3. Complete the medical requirements where applicable.
  4. Submit the application to the relevant authority with the state fee.
  5. Wait for review, responding to any requests for clarification.
  6. Collect your residence card.

Where applications go wrong

In our experience, refusals and delays rarely come from ineligibility. They come from incomplete files: a missing translation, an expired police certificate, an address that does not match the lease, or grounds that were plausible but not documented.

The fix is unglamorous. Assemble the file completely before submitting, and check the validity dates on every document the week you file rather than the month you gathered them.

If you would like your grounds assessed and your document list prepared, we can review your situation and handle the submission on your behalf.
